Comparing the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with Compassion Focused Therapy on loneliness and worry among Multiple Sclerosis patients

Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with Compassion Focused Therapy on feelings of loneliness and worry among patients with Multiple Sclerosis. Materials and Methods: Semi-experimental design with pretest-posttest and the control group, 45 patients with Multiple Sclerosis were selected from among the patients of MS Clinic in Tehran in 1398 and randomly divided into two experimental groups, the first group Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and the second group Compassion Focused Therapy and a control group . Participants completed the Adult Socio-Emotional Feeling Questionnaire and the Penn State Worry Questionnaire in two stages before and after the intervention. The groups participated in eight sessions of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and ten sessions of Compassion-Focused Therapy, respectively. The control group did not receive any intervention and at the end post-test was taken. Data were reported by analysis of variance Findings: Findings obtained from univariate analysis of covariance at the statistical level of p <0.05 were for lonelinessF = 42.60 and for worry F = 5.90, which indicates the more effectiveness of Act. Conclusion: It is suggested that this treatment be given more attention in controlling patients' psychological symptoms.
